The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
