It's difficult for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to possess a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Certain people claim the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the confidence to do that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
